Luke 10:38-42

In our “always on” age, the idea of doing two things at once is almost a given. Between ever-increasing (and always intrusive) “notifications” the attention of even the most conscientious among us is constantly pulled in multiple directions—work, email, texts, social media—even Amazon delivery. In a sad kind of irony, it is in the midst of our plate-spinning era that brain researchers have come to a definitive conclusion: multitasking is a myth. People cannot focus on more than one task or subject at a time. Every time we change focus, we lose a little bit of concentration, a little bit of perception. The Harvard Business journal has only recently discovered what Christians have known for millenia: No one can serve two masters. In the case of the two sisters we read of in Luke 10, the precept is much the same: no one can maintain *multiple “*top priorities”—one will always assert itself over the other. Because He loved her, Jesus helped Martha straighten out her mixed up priorities. For anyone with ears to hear, I believe He both desires and will do the same, in 2026.
